Cell Phones and Privacy

I think that it would be pretty crazy if the government banned the use of pre-paid cell phones. There are a lot ways they can be used for good. For example, If a parent didn't want their kid running up the phone bill, they can get them a pre-paid phone to limit the amount of use they get. They are also useful for people that can't afford a cell phone plan. In this day and age, you need to have a phone for communication. You are dead in the water without it. Two year plans are rather expensive and if somebody had to make an important call but can't afford a cell phone plan, then their best bet would be to buy a prepaid phone. I think that a better way to solve the criminal use of prepaid phones is to make it like renting a car, but you can pay with cash. All you have to do is give some sort of contact information, and then you bring the phone back. Some sort of government regulation could go in place to make it so less criminals get ahold of these phones but I don't think you can ban them entirely.
